2000-11-25 in Shiraz, Iran We found Shiraz to be very overrated. Overpriced and over-policed We met Etienne Van Cann and Frederik Braekman who were in town for the Men's International Fencing competition, which Frederik actually won. They were a good laugh and after a night on the town (hamburgers and soda) we returned to their hotel for a good old cup of chay (tea). Only to be greeted by their secret police bodyguards who they had snuck out from in the first place. This of course meant that the next day we had a very suspicious bearded man pacing up and down outside our room, I guess it was time to leave. We started off with some sightseeing, with a quick drive out to Perspolis (the ruined city/capital of Ancient Persia), followed by some tombs carved into cliffs and a whistlestop tour of Shiraz
