2000-11-12 in Igoumenitsa, Greece The route from Igoumenitsa to Thessalonika made this the 2nd Sunday in a row to go into our biking hall of fame We were woken up at 5am Greek time on the superfast ferry from Bari (Italy) to Igoumenitsa. After a cold shower (what else) we disembarked only to find another bike on the ferry. His name is Kari, he is Finnish, and he was on his way back to Saudi Arabia where he is the numero uno porn filterer! Seriously he runs the proxies that control the Saudi internet content. Imagine if the Raucher Brothers had that job! Disaster usually strikes Robert before sunrise and this morning was no exception, when, after riding for about 1 km into town he disovered that he was missing part of his visor! only him! We found it in the street an hour later. Kari had done this route before and wisely made us go in front. As the mountain pass we were about to assail was full of hairpin turns that had little of no warning. This was the Famous Katara Pass!! The pass reaches about 1600 kms and is a good three hour ride. Amazing! has anyone out there done this trip? Half way up we grabbed a photo oppurtunity (see pics) and Robert once again courted a bit of disaster when he dropped his bike. Surprised? We drove on to Meteore, the home of the monasteries on top of these volcanic rocks/cliffs (as seen in James Bond!). Then we bombed on to Mt Olympus for a quick squiz and finally holed up in Thessalonika for the Night. Thessalonika is an amazing town, full of a very happening vibe and loads of gorgeous Greek women (hello again!). With a waterfront promenade chock full of bars and clubs. The place just reminds me of Cape Town is so many ways. we will definitely be coming back...
