My day in Ruins

The ancient capital of Thailand, ruins galore. Come on lets get some culture!

We arrived here last night after a ride up from Bangkok, 400 kms to the south. Apparently there is loads to do here but we just couldnt find the party. But today we went exploring and found the historical park containing the ruins of the 14th century capital. They were obviously still the staunch Buddhists they are today as every ruin had at least one Buddha attached to it. Once again I found myself surprised at how much access tourists have to the attractions. School groups were climbing all over it, I didnt get same sense of being somewhere special like I did in Persopolis in Iran. Apparently a distinct lack of tourists helps me get in the mood for old places. Maybe we should start waking earlier to beat the package tourists.

Ok, I have stopped whining, we took some nice pictures and will be in Chiang Mai tomorrow. Just a stones throw from Laos. Bring it on.
