Steven Raucher's World Tour

Got Rubber?

A semi-first world city always makes for a change

What can one say? The minute we got out of the station we had a local tour guide riding pullion on Roberts bike without even an invitation! He managed to show us every roach-infested dosshouse in town before we approved of a venue (24 hour carpark security clinched it). After yet another fruitless search for alcohol, we treated ourselves to a breaking the fast (Ramadan, remember?) BBQ on the roof terrace of the Holiday Inn. The next day we met the tyre dealer that we had been corresponding with. He is a very hospitable and charming man named Jawad Rashid and he has an equally charming older brother named Sohail. (ph +9242 772 3524). He not only managed to find us tyres within an hour, but also invited us to break the fast in their shop that evening. It turns out that the Rashid brothers are big fans of South Africa, and Jawad had only just returned from Cape Town!

We spent today fitting the Korean-made Goldenboy tyres to our bikes, lets hope they work! After once again being fed by Jawad we headed off to the Lahore Fort for a splash of culture. A guided tour of the fort and accompanying mosque proved to be well worth the visit. Being monuments constructed by Shah Jahan, they are very similar to the Mughal Palaces that I have seen in Rajasthan (which happens to be the direction in which we are headed).

Tonight a spot of Chinese followed by packing for tomorrows border crossing into India. By this time tomorrow we aim to be pissed out of our trees. Bring on the Holy Cows!

A quick cheezy photo-op at the Mirror Palace (I had to pay my respects)
