Steven Raucher's World Tour

2000-11-23 in Esfahan, Iran
A pretty city

Lady luck had seemed to show herself once again (the only lady who does around these parts)

when arriving in town we met a local biker named Masuod, he skillfully guided us to our hotel and subsequently turned out to be a bit of a diamond geezer. We had dinner with him and his business partner/friend, Karim, later that evening. After dinner we found a cosy teahouse beneath the Si o Se bridge where the hubbly bubbly was almost as good as the company. Our new friends turned out to be experts in contraband, from satellite TV to alcohol, to everything else. We were soon educated in the ways of the real Iran. The behind closed doors world is very different to the one that the government would like one to see. Wink wink , say no more, say no more. Karim insisted on hosting us whilst in town so we relocated to his lovely apartment. Masuod and Karim made it their mission to show us the local perspective of Esfahan, which occasionally meant being followed by the not-so-secret police (basically anyone with a beard is one of them). The sights of the very beautiful city were very impressive, the city boasts one of the largest squares in the world, 500m X 160m, it is flanked by a bazaar, which is over 3 kms long in total. There are also stunning mosques and palaces (see pictures). One full day was enough for us and we headed to Shiraz the next day.
